ILP "Design"- Edmodo

For my third independent learning project I created a class profile on Edmodo. I had never heard of this site before this class and it has become one of my favorite tools we have learned about! Edmodo allows teachers to create a facebook-like page for their classes which contains different groups. The groups can be used for different classes or subjects. For example, I created a page for a 5th grade class and included three different groups on my page, "Morning Bell Ringers", "Class Announcements" and "Helpful Tools". The main page shows you all of the recent activity but clicking on the different groups will bring you to a feed specific to that group. I think it is a great way to keep class materials organized and easily accessible.

(2) ILP "Design"-Prezi

For my second independent learning project I decided to use Prezi to create a lesson fit for a second grade class. This was my first time using Prezi and I really enjoyed it! I think I will use this program instead of powerpoint in the future because I like the different templates it offers!

As a future teacher I could use data collection and reporting tools in many different ways. I think it would be beneficial to use data collection in order to assess my students knowledge prior to beginning a lesson as well as their understanding of it after the lesson. Once I have the data I could use a reporting tool such as excel to keep it organized and analyze it by plugging in equations. I could use this with any grade level or subject matter.

I found reviewing my classmates blogs to be interesting regardless of the topic. Blogging allows individuals to express their thoughts and ideas on a topic freely which is why I enjoy it so much! Reading their ideas made me take different perspectives into consideration and allowed me to think critically about my views!

I would like learn how to become more efficient in excel. I know how to use the basic functions but at this point I really only know how to enter in data and calculate a few different equations. Learning more about it would allow me to analyze data in many different ways!

Chapter 10 explains the concept of a flipped class room as an "innovative blended delivery model that is being used in both K-12 and postsecondary classrooms. In a flipped classroom, students listen to prerecorded video lectures for homework before coming to class. This allows them to spend time in the classroom as active learners instead of passive receivers. I have included a link below that is a great source for educational videos that teachers could assign as homework!

Open education broadens the access to the learning and training offered in traditional education systems so that individuals can access it without actually attending the school or university. Open content is information that is freely shared by an individual to be reused, revised, remixed or redistributed. Open Source is software that is made available for people to use. It is commonly free and is a great source for people who are working on a limited budget. If you are interested in learning more about this terms I have included a ling below!

By completing the two powerpoint assignments I learned how to use many features in powerpoint that I didn't even know existed. One of these skills included creating action buttons! I have seen them used in presentations before but I didn't know what they were called or how I could create them myself. Action buttons are extremely useful when creating interactive powerpoints such as quizzes! The only thing I didn't like about assignment 6 was that it was a group project. My group decided to use powerpoint online in order to share our work but unfortunately that limited the features we had to use. Regardless of this set back, we were able to complete our assignment and I learned a lot in the process!
